Online Teaching Endorsement

Description

The Online Teaching Endorsement & Graduate Certificate Program features three courses designed to prepare teacher candidates to deliver enhanced online learning opportunities for P-12 learners. The initial course in the sequence introduces teacher candidates to concepts in distance education, research in online practices and instructional design principles, and strategies for engaging learners using technology in learning management systems. The second course focuses on the design and development of high-quality online learning experiences based on Quality Matters K-12 standards. The final course addresses expectations, challenges, and issues specific to facilitating online learning including creating a sense of community, differentiating instruction, and encouraging interactivity.  

Certificate Requirements

Certificate Admission Requirements

  • Admitted to the university as a graduate student in education
  • Submit official transcripts from all colleges/universities attended
  • Submit verification of immunization (pdf)

Dismissal Policy

Students are required to maintain a 3.0 GPA during the three-course series that comprise the certificate program. If a student's GPA falls below a 3.0, he/she may petition to stay in the certificate program for one semester. If, at the end of the semester on probation the student's GPA is still below a 3.0, he/she will be dismissed from the certificate program. Any student who plagiarizes work will fail that course (receive an F) and be referred to the Judicial Council for a violation of Georgia College & State University's Honor Code.

Exit Requirements

At the completion of the three-course certificate program students who have met all requirements of the three-course series will be eligible to receive the certificate in Online Teaching and, when applicable they will be recommended to the Professional Standards Commission for the endorsement.
